Trisha McNally

As an Artist and Illustrator based in Northern Ireland, Trisha McNally's work lies somewhere between image making and image manipulation, combining digital elements with traditional processes. A former graduate with a BDes in Fashion and Textiles design from the University of Ulster, Belfast she is heavily influenced by a love of paper, collage, pattern and texture. Her work combines a passion for all things colourful and unusual, creating provoking and striking images with a visual depth that is both appealing to the sensibilities and enticingly intricate to the eye. Her artwork is often figurative based, exploring themes of femininity and identity within the context of personal narrative and storytelling.

Her illustrative work is mostly fashion and editorial. Clients have included IF Magazine/ Modo Magazine/ BandwidthSessions.com/ Revista Gooo/ LeftoversZine / Supersweet.org. She is always looking for new, fresh and exciting ways to display her work and has been involved in exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Past exhibitions include the 'Edition' exhibition, Bodhi Gallery, London, 'Homemade' Synth Eastwood Show, Dublin, and the 'Top100' exhibition, Jealous Gallery, London. Upcoming shows include ‘ Mail Me Art 2’ Red Art Gallery, London and ‘Poster Girl” Neurtitan Galerie, Berlin.

On the blog this week I'd like to introduce you to Jill Black, owner of local Belfast based business 'Ginger Rosie's Hand Painted Pots'.

A graduate of the University of Ulster at York Street (Art College), Jill set up her business in 2009, specialising in hand-painted terracotta pots. Since continues to expand her range of designs all of which are now also available on canvas.

Jill mainly uses acrylics and inks for her creations which come in all shapes and sizes and in a variety of styles. Her designs are colourful and funky!

Life After Vinyl - Art Exhibition

The opening night of the second show at one of Belfast's newest galleries took place on Friday 28th May 2010. The 'Life after Vinyl' exhibition at the sell me your socks gallery, 77 Dublin Road, Belfast was a great success, fuelled by an ample supply of free booze!

With work on display from a diverse range of local artists and also from further afield, the totally open theme allowed for an ecclectic mix of artistic interpretations and expressions.

Indeed some may view it as sacrilegious to paint on vinyls, but in today's pro-environmentalist culture where recycling is embraced some even raised their game for the show to hear tell - paint on a Pink Floyd 'pink' edition vinyl.

Whatever you think about the recording artists concerned, it makes you consider the concept of change. By banishing the past everything is enabled to move on and appeal to an audience in a new way for today - creating vinyl's that no longer delight the audible senses but the visual.
